The role of Buyer – Special Projects is responsible for supporting key projects within the Procurement function. They will work closely with Head of Category, Category Manager, Buyer, Assistant Buyer roles, Commercial Finance Manager, and Project Manager roles (amongst others) to support the execution of key projects, product matching for tender and bid management alongside data consolidation within operational procurement as they further develop their supply chain and ethical sourcing capabilities.

This role will be expected to demonstrate broad sourcing experience and product expertise that is regularly maintained through close collaboration with category leads. As a Buyer in the Procurement function, this role will also work on key sourcing and pricing projects, supporting Category Managers as required in a sourcing capacity across bespoke and commodity lines.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Actively support Bid Activity through application of extensive product knowledge to lead and complete product matching, developing longer term solutions to speed up activity. This will also include high levels of collaboration across the business.
  • Support procurement activity aligned to data strategy, supporting operational procurement requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sustainability team to support the roll out of key procurement initiatives.
  • Support Category leads with a clear portfolio of strategic procurement sourcing projects across bespoke and commodity lines.
  • Buying activity will include:
    • Support delivery of category strategies for category portfolio
    • Negotiate supplier pricing to ensure best total cost of ownership for the business, considering working capital where relevant.
    • Drive customer cost savings via rate reductions, resourcing, value engineering, and cost in use projects
    • Support the sourcing of products and suppliers to drive growth and reduce costs
    • Carry out range reviews, delivering product development, innovation, sustainable alternatives, simplification, and cost savings
    • Manage Product Enquiries
    • Manage supplier relationships and drive supplier development
    • Support supply chain to maintain continuity of supply and ensure a robust supply chain
    • Support the technical services team to drive supplier performance and continuous improvement

Experience & Qualifications required:

  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills
  • Possess strong analytical skills, are comfortable dealing with numerical data, and have strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in a buying or sourcing role.
  • A resilient and motivated individual is required for this role in order to effectively manage relationships
  • Strong people management skills
  • Excellent IT skills with excel knowledge and an aptitude for using new evolving systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail
