We are recruiting on behalf of a large and established Midlands-based housing association for experienced Housing Officers to join their team on an initial temporary contract, with the potential to extend. This Housing Officer role offers an excellent opportunity for a housing professional to support safe, well-managed communities through effective estate management, tenant engagement and proactive interventions.

Key Responsibilities of a Housing Officer:

  • Manage an allocated housing patch, carrying out estate inspections and identifying issues affecting residents and properties.
  • Monitor communal areas and ensure health, safety and estate standards are maintained.
  • Address estate-related issues including fly-tipping, pest control, cleaning, grounds maintenance and environmental concerns.
  • Build positive relationships with tenants and support tenancy sustainment.
  • Carry out property visits, home checks and inspections where required.
  • Respond to housing condition concerns including damp, mould and property-related issues.
  • Support building safety requirements, fire safety actions and emergency response processes.
  • Work with internal teams, contractors, Local Authorities, Police and external agencies to resolve community issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and update housing management systems.
  • Support temporary moves and alternative accommodation arrangements where required.

To be successful as a Housing Officer you will need:

  • Previous experience in housing management, estates, tenancy management, homelessness, property services or a similar role.
  • Experience working directly with tenants and managing housing-related issues.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy management and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience dealing with estate inspections, ASB, environmental issues or complex tenant situations.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage a busy patch independently and prioritise competing demands.
  • Good IT and administration skills, including experience using housing or case management systems.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Awaab's law and Housing Ombudsmen code.
  • Experience with Northgate or similar housing systems is desirable but not essential.

What's on offer:

  • Temporary contract initially for 2 months, with potential extension.
  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Hybrid working with a combination of home working, office attendance and regular patch visits.
  • Locations covered include Birmingham and surrounding areas such as Wolverhampton, Halesowen and West Bromwich.
