This Accountant position offers the opportunity to work closely with operational teams across repairs, estates, and fleet services, playing a vital role in service delivery and performance improvement.
This is a broad, hands-on role with a strong operational focus, supporting multiple service areas and working within a collaborative finance team. The organisation is open to developing the right candidate, offering exposure to complex housing operations alongside strong professional support. As an Accountant, you will play a critical role in linking finance and operations.
You will be providing financial oversight, insight, and challenge across high-volume, in-house service delivery areas, ensuring budgets, forecasts, and performance reporting are robust, accurate, and meaningful. This Accountant role is well suited to someone who enjoys working close to service delivery.
As an Accountant, you will be:
- Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting year-end accounts across three operational service areas
- Supporting budget setting, monitoring, and forecasting for frontline housing services
- Providing financial support for responsive repairs, a high-volume, day-to-day service delivered by in-house labour teams
- Supporting void repairs, also delivered in-house, with lower but critical volumes
- Analysing operational outputs using Excel (pivot tables essential) to produce detailed performance and cost reports
- Supporting Estates services, with costs recharged to tenants through service charges
- Providing financial oversight of a fleet of approximately 350 vehicles supporting repairs and estates services
- Managing and developing three Assistants, improving reporting quality and team capability
We'd love to speak to anyone with:
- Strong management accounting experience, including month-end processes
- Proven experience in budgeting and forecasting
- Advanced Excel skills, particularly pivot tables and data analysis
- Experience using a finance system alongside an operational or housing management system (desirable)
- Experience working in social housing or a similar operational environment (advantageous but not essential)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-finance stakeholders
Key requirements for this Accountant role:
- Experience managing or mentoring staff
- Strong system reporting and data interpretation skills
- Ability to work at pace in a high-volume, operational environment
