Senior Software Developer

Contract: OUTSIDE IR35

Term: 6 Months (3 year project)

Location: UK Remote, Occasional travel

A technology consultancy is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join an ongoing digital project and provide additional engineering capacity. The successful candidate will work across the full stack, with responsibilities spanning frontend, backend, infrastructure, and automated testing. This role focuses on production hardening, technical debt reduction, and improving the reliability and maintainability of the service rather than feature-heavy delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance frontend applications using Express.js, TypeScript, templating systems, and a shared design system.
• Build, integrate, and refine backend services written in Kotlin using Spring Boot, including interactions with internal and external APIs.
• Implement comprehensive automated testing for both UI and backend components, championing TDD principles.
• Improve system stability by addressing technical debt, strengthening production readiness, and supporting operational needs.
• Contribute to infrastructure work using Terraform, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate in an agile, multidisciplinary team, participating in pair programming, peer reviews, and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Document work clearly and provide effective handover materials to ensure long-term maintainability.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong proficiency in full-stack development, with confidence across frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience building and maintaining APIs in Kotlin/Spring Boot.
• Familiarity with server-rendered frontend architectures using Express.js, TypeScript, and templating engines.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation technologies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in remote teams.
• Commitment to clean code, secure‑by‑design engineering, and robust testing practices.

Additional Information

• Role requires five days per week, primarily remote with occasional travel.
• MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR SECURITY CLEARANCE (BPSS to start, with SC required).
