NC Associates are working in partnership with a well‑established and growing organisation based in Greater Manchester to recruit an Assistant Accountant.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to develop their accounting career within a supportive and forward‑thinking business.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the month‑end process, preparing financial reports, and ensuring the smooth running of the finance function.

This position offers excellent exposure across management accounting and the opportunity to progress within a successful organisation.

  • Assistant Accountant Responsibilities
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Posting journals including accruals, prepayments and depreciation
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting with month‑end and year‑end close processes
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Reconciling bank accounts and control accounts
  • Assisting with cash flow reporting
  • Supporting the Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger functions when required
  • Producing financial reports and analysis for senior management
  • Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and controls
  • Assisting with ad‑hoc finance projects
  • Assistant Accountant Experience Required

To be successful in your application, you must have the following

  • Previous experience working within an Assistant Accountant or Accounts Assistant role
  • AAT Qualified or actively studying ACCA / CIMA
  • Experience assisting with month‑end processes
  • Good understanding of accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work with stakeholders across the business
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Desirable

  • Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle or Sage
  • Experience within a fast‑paced commercial environment
  • Exposure to budgeting and forecasting
  • Power BI experience would be advantageous
