We are looking for an experiencedSolidWorks Mechanical Design Engineerto join our engineering team. This is a hands-on, broad-ranging role for an engineer with strong SolidWorks skills, sound mechanical engineering knowledge and the ability to take designs from concept through to production.
The Role
You will develop mechanical designs, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings, working closely with our engineering, CNC machining and assembly teams.
A key focus will becomplex 3D modelling and surfacing, including smooth compound curves and geometrybeyond straightforward flat-edged components. Strong SolidWorks surfacing and advanced modelling skills are therefore essential.
You will also produce accurate, fully toleranced, production-ready drawings with a strong understanding ofGD&T, while working alongside vehicle application engineers to develop new products from concept through to prototype and production.
The role will suit an engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges and creating practical, manufacturable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D mechanical designs and assemblies usingSolidWorks, including complex surfaces, compound curves and advanced 3D geometry.
- Create accurate, fully toleranced manufacturing drawings usingGD&Tand appropriate drawing standards.
- Design components forCNC machining and production, considering materials, finishes, tolerances and manufacturing processes.
- Work closely with CNC machining, assembly and vehicle application teams to develop and optimise products fromconcept through to prototype and production.
- Identify and resolve design challenges to ensure products meet functional, dimensional and performance requirements.
- Maintain accurate CAD files, engineering documentation andBills of Materials (BOMs)within the company's MRP/PDM systems.
- Support prototype development using3D scanning and 3D printingwhere appropriate.
- Contribute to product improvements and wider engineering development projects.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' professional mechanical design engineering experience.
- Strong, demonstrableSolidWorksexpertise, including advanced modelling and surfacing.
- Proven experience designingcomplex geometry, surfaces and compound curves.
- Experience usingPDM / product data management systems.
- Strong understanding and practical application ofGD&T / geometric tolerancing.
- Good knowledge ofmechanical engineering principles, CNC machining and Design for Manufacture.
- Understanding of engineering materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to take ownership of design projects and deliverproduction-ready solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and engineering judgement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering and production environment.

- Experience usingFEAto assess and optimise components.
- Experience with prototype development and product testing.
- Familiarity withMRP systems and BOM management.
- Experience using3D scanning and 3D printing.
- Experience with demanding or performance-critical applications.
- An interest inmotorsport or high-performance automotive engineering.
- Knowledge or experience ofsuspension or shock absorber design.
The Person
We are looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer who takes pride in producing high-quality work and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges.
You will have strong attention to detail, a practical approach to design and a clear understanding that good engineering must work in the real world. You will be comfortable taking ownership of projects and working closely with engineers, machinists and other members of the team.
Above all, we are looking for someone withstrong core mechanical design capability, exceptional SolidWorks skills and the confidence to tackle complex geometry, who can bring their experience and engineering judgement to a varied range of projects.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to work on technically challenging, high-performance engineering projects.
- A varied role with significant scope to apply and develop your design skills.
- A practical engineering environment where your designs go from CAD to physical components.
- The opportunity to work closely with experienced engineering, machining and assembly teams.
- The chance to contribute directly to new product development and continuous product improvement.
If you're an experienced SolidWorks Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a role where you can apply your skills to complex, high-quality engineering projects, we'd love to hear from you.
