The firm: This firm of Solicitors are Housing Disrepair and financial litigation specialists committed to a high level of customer service. With a dedicated team of exceptional lawyers covering a wide range of Tenant and financial matters. Offering a range of services from pursuing Council and Housing Association Landlords for claims of disrepair to claims against lenders for secret commissions, PPI claims, Rejected PPI along with claims under s.75 of the Consumer Credit Act where creditors can be held liable for goods and services that have been purchased using credit. In particular, the firm acts for many clients in respect of the misrepresentations that lead clients into purchasing solar PV systems.
The role:
- Caseload Management: Managing a full, active caseload of pre-and post-issue housing disrepair claims.
- Drafting & Documents: Preparing and reviewing legal documents, including Letters of Claim, witness statements, and court documents.
- Protocol Compliance: Ensuring all actions comply with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims.
- Negotiation & Advocacy: Negotiating with landlords and their solicitors for repairs and compensation, including settling claims through mediation or court hearings.
- Expert Liaison: Instructing independent surveyors to inspect properties and reviewing reports.
- Client Care: Acting as the main contact for tenants, advising them on funding options (e.g., Conditional Fee Agreements), and providing updates on their case.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven track record of handling litigated housing disrepair or fast-track civil litigation claims minimum 2 years.
- Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of housing law, specifically the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985.
- Case Management: Proficiency in using legal case management systems to maintain accurate records.
- Commercial Awareness: Ability to work in a target-driven environment.
- Qualifications: While often a CILEX member or solicitor, non-qualified fee earners with substantial experience are common in this role.
