Based in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, NTCE (Nissan Technical Centre, Europe) is our UK Research and Development hub. We are home to the functions that help us lead the way in vehicle design and development of the vehicles manufactured in our European plants. With more than 900 people based here from over 25 different countries, it’s a hive of ideas, imagination, and vision, based in open-plan spacious offices designed to encourage cross-functional collaboration. The teams at the Cranfield Nissan Technical Centre work to develop engineering and design requirements for new car models across the world.
Purpose
We are seeking a Health & Safety Engineer based at Nissan Technical Centre Europe to join the team as a fixed term maternity cover. They will be responsible for analysing and identifying potential hazards onsite and developing safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries to ensure the safety of employees.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
- Advise on and maintain the site emergency management procedures and coordinate the site planning, preparation, training, and auditing including for national emergencies.
- Support departments with health and safety advice, risk assessment completion, auditing, and applicability of policies/procedures.
- Co-ordinate the investigation of all accidents and incidents, including reporting, analysis, and countermeasures.
- Set HS training strategy, develop specifications and content with external providers as necessary. Liaise with the training coordinator to develop and where necessary deliver Health and Safety training to help achieve the Company’s needs.
- Plan and organise Statutory Inspections of lifting equipment, pressure vessels, lifts, LEVs etc. Issue permits to work.
- Maintain adequate information systems on topics including civil and criminal law, health and safety management and technical advances.
- Provide remote health and safety support to 2 sites in London and 1 site in Germany, including occasional travel and on-site auditing.
- Liaise with external authorities, support their site visits and applicable regulatory activities.
Skills & Experience
The Health & Safety Engineer should have the following skills or experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering and or related discipline
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and multitask between multiple projects simultaneously.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate ideas effectively & adapt to differing cultural and business requirements
- Competent with PC applications including Microsoft Excel, Word and Project.
- Be self-motivating, self-managing, pro-active and positive.
- Have an energetic personality and be flexible regarding working practice and working hours.
