As a Teaching Assistant Apprentice you will embark on a rewarding journey where each day offers a diverse array of responsibilities aimed at fostering student success and supporting teachers. Your typical day will involve a range of duties and tasks such as:

Responsibilities

  • Assisting teachers in the preparation of lesson materials, ensuring classrooms are conducive to learning, and setting up necessary equipment for instructional activities.
  • Providing support to students during classroom sessions, offering guidance, encouragement, and clarification on learning tasks to enhance comprehension and academic progress.
  • Offering individualized assistance to students who may require additional support or have specific learning needs, tailoring the approach to address their unique requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with teachers to monitor student behaviour, promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and implement effective strategies for managing conduct and engagement.
  • Assisting teachers with administrative tasks, including grading assignments, maintaining accurate records of student progress, and organising educational materials to ensure efficient classroom operations.
  • Actively participating in staff meetings and professional development sessions to expand knowledge, refine skills, and stay updated on best practices.
  • Applying strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
  • Adapting communication strategies to the audience and context.
  • Applying behaviour‑management strategies in line with organisational policy.
  • Adapting resources to support all learners.
  • Communicating with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
  • Applying teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
  • Building relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Complying with legislation, guidance and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Supporting the well‑being and mental health of learners.
  • Observing, recording, and reporting on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Applying methods of formative assessment.
  • Using up‑to‑date technology safely to support learning and encouraging safe use by learners.
  • Identifying and responding to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Providing feedback to learners.
