Role

Due to expansion and internal progression, NIRAS requires an experienced Mechanical Process Project Engineer to support one of our clients, a major food products producer in the delivery of process optimization, continuous improvement, and capital project initiatives on site at their state of the art manufacturing facility in Cork.

Responsibilities

  • The Mechanical Process Project Engineer will be responsible for all aspects Technical Ownership of Capital Projects, CAPEX Support & Governance, Project Execution & Commissioning, Procurement & Supplier Management Compliance & Safety, Operational Readiness as well as, cross-functional collaboration, standards, & handover, reporting & decision support
  • Be responsible for implementation of engineering solutions, Process & Facilities Troubleshooting, Capital Projects delivery, P&ID standardization and advances, stakeholder coordination, continuous improvements centered on safety, quality, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Will work cross-functionally with Production, Operations, Quality, Maintenance and external vendors.
  • Lead projects from concept through commissioning and validation ensuring compliance with GMP, food safety, regulatory and client engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Successful applicants will :-
  • Hold a Degree or Higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Possess a proven track record in CAPEX and equipment installations from concept through implementation and validation
  • Have 5- 10 years engineering experience in Food, Beverage, Pharmaceutical Dairy Manufacturing.
  • Be experienced in process optimization and process performance improvement.
  • Be experienced in engaging OEMs, partners, and cross‑functional teams.

Have proven expertise in contractor and OEM safe working standards.

Be experience in commissioning and qualification (FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ).

  • Have the ability to interpret engineering documents (P&IDs, PFDs, layouts, technical specs).
  • Be proficient in RFQ documentation.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting abilities and proactive problem‑solving skills
  • Have familiarity with project management principles and CAPEX processes.
  • Possess a strong understanding of automation and process control (PLC/SCADA).
  • Be well-acquainted with CIP systems and hygienic process design.
  • Have the ability to lead technical discussions with vendors, contractors and specialist suppliers.
  • Have strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
  • Be an effective communicator with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Hold strong influencing skills and abilities to align cross‑functional teams.
  • Have an ability to manage conflict constructively.
  • Hold strong stakeholder‑management and relationship‑building skills.
  • Be committed to a safety‑first culture.
