This is a senior leadership position, acting as the subject matter expert for project management and partnering closely with other Heads of Department and senior client success leadership to drive strategic change and outstanding client outcomes. Beyond team leadership, you'll own the department's commercial performance — ensuring project management is not just robust, but a genuine driver of profitability and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, own and continuously improve project management standards, methodologies and best practice across the studio.
  • Act as senior authority on delivery methods (agile, waterfall, wagile), applying the right approach per project.
  • Uphold project gateway processes, ensuring rigour in planning, reporting and escalation management.
  • Build, lead and inspire a high-performing team of project managers, owning recruitment, onboarding, retention and succession planning.
  • Set clear objectives, conduct appraisals and create development plans linking performance to quality and client outcomes.
  • Design flexible resourcing strategies across permanent staff, contractors and delivery partners (on-shore, near-shore, off-shore).
  • Own vetting and management of delivery partners, ensuring they meet studio standards.
  • Provide expert input into pre-sales and pitching, supporting accurate scoping and delivery credentials.
  • Take responsibility for departmental utilisation, productivity and commercial performance.
  • Manage departmental budgets for tools, training and licences with measurable ROI.
  • Lead client communication standards, acting as senior escalation point on project health, progress, risks and budgets.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record as a recognised leader in project management, with credibility across clients and colleagues.
  • Strong commercial acumen — able to balance delivery quality with financial performance.
  • Confident communicator who engages credibly at every level of an organisation.
  • Calm under pressure, with a track record of handling complexity and escalation with composure.
  • Demonstrable experience building and developing high-performing PM teams.
  • Comfortable working across agile, waterfall and hybrid delivery methodologies.

What We're Looking For

  • An inspirational people leader who sets high standards, motivates teams, and is genuinely passionate about developing talent — while bringing structure, consistency and clarity to complex projects.
  • Experience within a creative, digital or consultancy studio environment.
  • Familiarity with ISMS/compliance frameworks in a project delivery context.
  • Experience managing blended on-shore/near-shore/off-shore delivery models.
