Nine Twenty Engineering & Manufacturing is delighted to be working in partnership with Glasgow Whisky Ltd to appoint the first Distillery Manager for Glen Tromie Distillery – a unique and exciting opportunity to lead the next chapter of this historic site.

Situated at the site of a former distillery, Glen Tromie Distillery, nestled in the foothills of the Cairngorms and on the banks of the River Tromie, is a beautiful and quintessential setting for a Single Malt Distillery. Glasgow Whisky Ltd. will look to build and create a modern, forward thinking Scotch Malt Whisky Distillery, whilst paying respect to the traditions of the craft and the sheer beauty of the site. The distillery sources its water from the River Tromie, a tributary of the River Spey, with its waters flowing through an old mill lade that once powered the original mill’s waterwheel dating back to the 1700s.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Distillery Manager to be a part of the project team delivering a new modern Single Malt distillery with an annual capacity of 1.4M LPA. The manager will be a key player from construction, commissioning and ultimately the operation of the complete process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of distillery operations
  • Oversee and support the construction of the distillery, working alongside contractors (May 2025 – March 2026) to ensure successful site completion .
  • Recruit, train, and develop a new team, fostering a strong and positive working culture
  • Maintain the highest standards of whisky production, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Manage raw materials, production planning, and inventory control
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, HMRC requirements, and health & safety standards
  • Oversee sustainability initiatives to enhance efficiency while respecting traditional methods
  • Represent Glen Tromie Distillery in industry events, building relationships with stakeholders
  • Report into Glasgow Whisky Ltd. leadership group on a weekly/monthly basis

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Proven experience in whisky distillation, ideally at a managerial level
  • Strong technical knowledge of Distilling – preferably Single Malt Distilling
  • Distilling Qualification/s (e.g. IBD/GCD, Diploma or Degree) or similar
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring staff, and fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Project management experience, ideally in distillery expansions or process improvements
  • Excellent understanding of compliance, health & safety, and industry regulations
  • Passion for whisky and a deep appreciation of traditional and modern distillation techniques
  • Ideally, you will be based within a commutable distance of Kingussie

This is an extremely rare opportunity to be an integral part of a forward-thinking team in the development of a modern, efficient, environmentally focussed distillery.
