This appointment has been created deliberately, not reactively. Our client is strengthening its pre-construction function in response to a sustained increase in secured and negotiated work. Rather than pushing volume through an overstretched estimating team, the business is investing in senior leadership to improve bid quality, consistency and commercial decision-making.
If you’re currently pricing tenders under constant time pressure, firefighting poor information, or carrying senior responsibility without real influence, this role offers something different.
The Company: Our client is a long-established, privately owned building services contractor delivering complex electrical and mechanical projects across the South West. They operate with a stable order book, strong repeat clients and a measured approach to growth - not a boom-and-bust tender model. The culture is commercially disciplined, technically credible and pragmatic. Pre-construction is treated as a strategic function, not just a pricing department.
The Role: This is a true senior position combining hands-on estimating with leadership and influence. You will lead a small electrical estimating team, take ownership of tender strategy, and work closely with senior management to shape how projects are priced and risk is managed - not simply respond to bid deadlines.
- Leading electrical tenders across commercial and industrial projects
- Controlling pricing strategy, risk and margin rather than chasing volume
- Reviewing specifications, drawings and employers requirements at an early stage
- Managing and challenging supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Leading internal tender reviews and adjudications
- Improving estimating processes, cost data and benchmarking
- Mentoring and developing junior estimators
This role suits someone who is already senior or looking to step up, keen for more autonomy, better information, and fewer fire drills.
The Package: £65,000 - £70,000+ salary depending on experience, performance-related bonus, hybrid working, company vehicle or car allowance, laptop and mobile phone, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, long-term security and progression in a stable business.
Who this is ideal for? A Senior Electrical Estimator who wants more influence and less noise, an experienced estimator informally leading others but without the title or authority, an experienced estimator looking for that next step, someone tired of low-quality tenders and unrealistic deadlines, a commercially minded professional who values stability and reputation over churn.
