About Nimax Theatres

Owned by Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer, Nimax Theatres is an entrepreneurial and innovative organisation that owns and operates six theatres in the heart of London’s West End – the Apollo, Duchess, Garrick, Lyric, Palace, and Vaudeville. Additionally, Nica Burns has built an exciting new flexible theatre located at the top of Charing Cross Road, @sohoplace, which has recently opened and has a close operational relationship with Nimax Theatres.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Stage and Deputy Head of Stage in providing stage services for all performances, concerts and other activities as required. To carry out maintenance tasks when required.

Health and Safety

  • Assist the Head of Stage with the implementation and operation of the Company’s Health and Safety Policy at the theatre.
  • Assist the Head of Stage with the implementation and operation of the Company’s Emergency Procedures at the theatre, and carry out any specific duties required in the event of an emergency.
  • Comply with method controls laid out in the theatre’s risk assessments.
  • Ensure that health and safety equipment and PPE supplied is available and used correctly. Report any defects to the Head of Stage.
  • Carry out equipment checks as required.
  • Assisting the Head of Stage / Deputy Head of Stage in ensuring that the stage storage areas with the theatre are kept in good order and repair.

Production

  • Assisting the Head of Stage / Deputy Head of Stage in relation to the stage for the safe and efficient get-in, fit-up and get-out of all productions, concerts and events within the theatre.
  • Assisting the Head of Stage / Deputy Head of Stage in ensure the smooth and safe operation of all stage equipment located within the theatre.
  • To work as part of the stage crew during shows and, if required, to act as flyman.
  • To be fully conversant with the operation of the counterweight system within the theatre.

General

  • To attend training courses as required in order to further self-development.
  • To adhere to all Health & Safety procedures to minimise the risk of injury and accidents.
  • Complete relevant training requested by the company as per the training needs analysis.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Head or Deputy Head of Stage or the Company

Person specification

Essential

  • Understanding of health and safety.
  • A flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Works calmly under pressure.
  • Proactive.
  • Strong communication skills.

Desirable

  • First Aid At Work qualification
  • IOSH Working Safely qualification or equivalent, relevant health and safety qualification, along with significant experience of practical safety management in a live performance or events environment
  • Experience of operating a fly system.
  • Working at Height trained.
