We develop a wide range of x-ray systems which are deployed worldwide in automotive, aerospace, and other manufacturing industries. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Mechanical Engineer to work on-site at our facility in Tring, Hertfordshire.

What is your role? The senior mechanical engineer will provide senior technical leadership to the team, in the design, development and optimisation of the mechanical systems for X-ray source technology. They will ensure the products are compliant, reliable, manufacturable and cost-effective. The role will provide leadership to cross-functional teams from both technical and project-management perspectives to deliver project milestones on time and to specification. This is a varied role spanning the conceptual design of a product to productionisation as well as production support of existing products to quality support, both internal and external.

What are your key areas of responsibility?

  • Lead and deliver projects from requirements to productionisation, ensuring projects meet time, cost and quality targets.
  • Define technical solutions with a focus on innovation, design for manufacturing and reliability.
  • Maintain the MRP system, including existing product structures.
  • Support the build and testing of prototypes and conduct design validation studies to ensure requirements are met.
  • Work with suppliers and on-site machine shop to develop new technical solutions, optimise product design and manufacturing techniques.
  • Understand and comply with relevant international standards.
  • Preparing and leading design reviews.
  • Complete engineering change notices and support the completion of them through the business.
  • Support the development of departmental processes.
  • Prepare design, production, and service documentation including component design, technical drawing, assembly and user instructions.

Essential:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of experience in high-precision engineering e.g. special purpose machinery, industrial or scientific equipment.
  • Proven experience taking designs through full product life-cycle and productionising low-volume products.
  • Strong problem solving, communication and project delivery skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with electromagnetic radiation.
  • Experience collaborating closely with other disciplines: software, electrical, science.
  • Experience with FEA (Ansys Preferred).
  • Hands-on prototype building and testing experience.
  • Experience designing for manufacturing, assembly and servicing.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with IBM DOORs.
