Nijman/Zeetank International Transport Ltd, based in St Helens, is part of the Trans Polonia Group, an international transport and logistics organisation with operations across Europe.

With more than 60 years of experience, Nijman/Zeetank in St Helens has developed particular expertise in the transport and logistics of flat glass using specialised equipment. The wider Group also provides transport and logistics services for leading international customers, with a strong focus on specialised road transport, including the transportation of liquid chemicals and fuels.

The role

We are looking for a Transport Manager to join our UK team in St Helens.
Your role will focus on the effective day-to-day management of the transport operation, ensuring high standards of service, safety, compliance and operational performance.
You will work closely with the local team, planners, customers and drivers, while also cooperating with colleagues across the wider Group.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands transport, enjoys working close to the operation and is looking to develop their skills and responsibilities within an international logistics organisation.
As you become familiar with the operation and the wider business, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and contribute to the continued development of our UK operation.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day transport operation and ensuring reliable service delivery
  • Coordinating transport planning, schedules and available resources
  • Supporting effective fleet utilisation and operational efficiency
  • Working closely with drivers and the operational team
  • Monitoring service quality and operational performance
  • Ensuring compliance with UK transport legislation, health and safety requirements and company standards
  • Managing transport-related costs and supporting operational efficiency
  • Maintaining strong day-to-day relationships with customers
  • Monitoring service levels and responding effectively to operational issues
  • Working with subcontractors and external partners where required
  • Identifying practical opportunities to improve processes and ways of working
  • Supporting the recruitment, onboarding and development of operational employees
  • Preparing and monitoring relevant operational KPIs
  • Cooperating with colleagues across the Group and supporting the implementation of Group processes and standards

About you

We are looking for someone with a background in road transport or logistics who understands the practical realities of running a transport operation.
You may already have experience in a transport management role, or you may be an experienced transport professional who is ready to take the next step in their career.

Essential experience and skills

  • Previous experience in road transport, logistics or a related operational environment
  • Good understanding of day-to-day transport operations
  • Experience working with operational teams and drivers is an advantage
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and respond effectively to operational challenges
  • Understanding of UK transport regulations and compliance requirements
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
  • Good command of English
  • Full right to work in the UK

Polish language skills would be an advantage.
