Join to apply for the Operations Technician role at Nijhuis Saur Industries. The Part-Time Operations Technician will be responsible for the safe and successful operation and maintenance of a modern Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located at the site of an internationally recognised customer in Craig Tara, Ayr. The technician will monitor and control the plant, implement operational changes, and prepare the plant for Planned Maintenance tasks. The role also includes entering all data into a computer-based system to record plant performance. The technician will carry out some first-line preventative maintenance on equipment with the support of a Computerised Maintenance Management System. This can include cleaning/calibration of process instruments, changing over pumps/equipment duty, greasing/lubrication and changing filters. Training will be provided, with a focus on a willingness to learn. This is a Flexitime role; the technician will work at times that suit them but may need to work outside these hours to facilitate client and contractor visits. The role includes providing on-call plant cover and responding to alarms or attending site if necessary. If the candidate demonstrates the ability to undertake higher-level maintenance activities or takes on additional responsibilities, the company may provide an increased remuneration package and fund further training.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work within the client and Company Quality, Health & Safety & Environment (QHSE) systems.
- Show visible ownership of HSE issues.
- Promptly raise any issues that could affect both the client and the company.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with customer personnel, Company employees and subcontractor staff.
- Apply a Continuous improvement mindset to make the plant more reliable and deliver greater value to the customer.
- Find faults, identify solutions and carry out basic repairs.
- Gather all plant information and complete plant logs to understand WWTP performance.
- Carry out daily laboratory water analysis and promptly report deviations to Site Management and Technical Team.
- Utilise plant information to identify changes in system performance and/or potential operational problems; work with the site manager and Technical team to implement changes to restore optimum operating condition.
- Keep the plant safe and tidy using good housekeeping practices.
- Work unsupervised and maintain a proactive attitude.
- Undergo training as required and identify training needs.
- Take on additional responsibilities as the company may reasonably require.
Required Skills / Qualifications (Essential)
- Demonstrate the ability to learn new skills.
- Ability to complete basic repairs and maintenance or demonstrate willingness to take on this responsibility.

Working for Us
- Salary: £26,000 – £31,000 (pro-rata: £13,000 – £15,500).
- Hours: 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Overtime: paid at 1.5x.
- Holidays: 25 days + 8 statutory days (pro-rata).
- Probationary Period: 6 months.
- Pension: Auto-enrolled after 3 months; Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice.
- Eligible to join Private Healthcare after probation; Death in Service benefit (4x basic salary) and Group Income Protection upon commencement of employment.
- Notice: 1 week during probation, 1 month thereafter.
