The Operations Technician is responsible on a day-to-day basis for operating and maintaining the Treatment Processes associated with the Effluent Treatment Plant. As well as daily operational routines, the Operations Technician will be expected to implement front line Planned Maintenance tasks as part of their role.

Key Objectives

  • Operate the water/Effluent treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure that water quality and quantity produced is within the specifications required by the customer.
  • Carry out front line maintenance as required.
  • Carry out duties in a safe manner to ensure that there is a minimum risk of harm to people or the environment as a result of plant operations.
  • Monitor the performance of the assets and carry out actions to ensure that the assets perform at an optimum level at all times.
  • Communicate with other members of the NSI and Customer teams to ensure that there is a good level of understanding regarding plant performance, activities to be carried out and any impacts on site wide operations as a result of work within NSI scope.
  • Carry out process isolations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that you work and operate the plant in a safe manner and highlight any safety related concerns.
  • Comply with NSI and customer HSE systems.
  • Ensure no harm to the environment.
  • Efficient use of chemicals for the WTP process.
  • Monitor Plant performance to ensure correct operation.
  • Monitor performance of individual process units to assess when operational maintenance is required.
  • Check inventory of operational consumables (e.g. chemicals, filters etc.) and request re-order as required.
  • Develop strong relationships with client’s operational staff.
  • Advise customer of changes in plant status that could impact on customer operations.
  • Attend shift handover.
  • Look for better ways of doing things, take up the innovation challenge.
  • Monitor plant performance and react to any changes that may affect compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure plant availability is maximised.
  • Carry out operational maintenance.
  • Receive deliveries.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues.
  • Share knowledge / experience with colleagues and others.
  • Build relationships with customer team.
  • Effectively communicate with contractors.

Required Skills and Qualifications (Essential)

  • Ability & knowledge to complete front line maintenance tasks safely.
  • Ability to follow & carry out Standard Operating Procedures accurately and in a safe manner.
  • A working knowledge of running electro-mechanical plant.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Process knowledge and transferable skills that can be adaptable for the role.

Required Skills and Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Knowledge of Wastewater treatment plants.
  • To be able to demonstrate through previous work experience, an ability to interpret technical information to affect changes on the plant.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a quality system.
  • NVQ in relevant discipline.

Benefits

  • The salary is between £26,000 & £31,000 per year, depending on your professional experience.
  • 20% Shift Allowance.
  • Overtime – 1.5 Hours of work - 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, in accordance with the shift rota.
  • Holidays – Incorporated into shift pattern.
  • Probationary Period – 6 months.
  • Pension – Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months - Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice.
  • Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.
  • Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 x basic salary) upon commencement of employment.
  • Notice – 1 week during probation, increasing to 1 month thereafter.
