The Laboratory Analyst will take the lead from the Laboratory Manager and will have responsibility for the safe and efficient testing of our customers' samples. They will be trained to a fully competent status to enable them to perform all analysis within the laboratory. They will have responsibility to ensure all records are maintained and all equipment is cared for and maintained. They will be challenged to meet KPIs on turnaround time, quality and reporting to internal and external customers. They will be key to the laboratory maintaining its UKAS accreditation by conforming to our established ISO 17025 Quality System.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The careful handling of samples from receipt to registration, analysis, storage and disposal and ultimately to the reporting of customers' results, through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Following existing procedures and HSE protocol to carry out routine analysis within the laboratory in a safe manner.
- Ensuring that all laboratory-based testing is conducted accurately and in conjunction with standard operating procedures and in-line with ISO 17025.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, calibration of all laboratory equipment - balances, dispensers, pipettes.
- Take direction from our Laboratory Team Leader on day-to-day priorities.
- Assist the laboratory group when required, by participating in analytical investigations, investigate testing and method/equipment fault finding and troubleshooting.
- Ensure the best use of laboratory consumables to ensure wastage is reduced and we are working as economically and sustainably as possible.
- Perform daily checks and calibrations on laboratory equipment as required.
- Responsible for data quality and integrity by ensuring information is accurately entered into the Laboratory Information Management System within required timeframes.
- To ensure that all PPE and Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to in the laboratory.
- Support the Laboratory Manager and the Quality Coordinator to ensure the laboratory maintains its ISO 17025 accreditation.
- Dealing with customer queries and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Carry out temperature and pressure probe calibrations in accordance with the relevant procedures for the Riventa business line at the Stoke facility.
- This is not a fully comprehensive list of responsibilities, and other duties will be expected to be completed within the limits of the position.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):
- Existing knowledge of good laboratory practice, routine testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting gained from at least 2 years practical experience.
- Excellent numeracy, literacy, computer literacy and laboratory skills.
- Good working knowledge of Quality systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
- Good awareness of all HSE aspects in a laboratory environment (i.e., COSHH, RA).
- Experience with standard laboratory applications such as Microsoft software and LIMS systems.
- Advantageous to have knowledge and experience of GC-MS, Ion Chromatography, FT-IR and Spectrophotometry.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Desirable):
- Degree/HND in Biochemistry/Chemistry or related science.
- Experience in a customer facing role.
- Experience of water, wastewater, cooling water and boiler water in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, food & beverage industries.
- Experience in developing analytical techniques.
Working for us means:
- The salary is between £26,000 & £29,000 per year, depending on your professional experience.
- Hours of Work – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Overtime – will be paid at 1.5.
- Holidays – 25 days + 8 statutory days (pro-rata).
- Probationary Period – 6 months.
- Pension – Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months - Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice.
- Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.
- Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 x basic salary) upon commencement of employment.
- Notice – 1 Week during probation, increasing to 1 month thereafter.
