Job Description
As an accomplished leader, you will oversee a team of Business Development Managers, ensuring the seamless execution of the team’s initiatives. Your leadership will drive the delivery of key NIHR Industry services, maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for guiding your team to achieve critical outputs and impact metrics, making a tangible difference in the success of our business development efforts.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Line manage a team of Business Development Managers
- Engage with companies developing new therapeutic and healthcare innovations
- Support the annual strategic and operational business planning process
- Develop new company accounts aligned to the NIHRCC BD Team’s key account strategy
- Lead the development and delivery of focused business development activities
- Work with stakeholders across the NIHR including the research infrastructure
About You
You are a dynamic and forward-thinking business development professional with a profound understanding of the UK health innovation ecosystem. Your expertise spans both emerging technologies and drug development, giving you a comprehensive view of the healthcare landscape. With proven experience in line management, you lead and inspire teams to excel, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Criteria
- A BSc / Medical, or equivalent degree, with a biology and/or chemistry
- Experience engaging with industry at a senior level
- Experience engaging with scientific/medical leaders from industry and, or academia
- Good understanding of healthcare product development
- Broad understanding of the scientific and technical concepts
- Experience of line management
Desired Criteria
- An advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in a related life science or health technology discipline
- Industry experience, within a company developing healthcare products
- Good understanding of the UK health research system and NHS
- Project management experience

NB: This is an office- based, hybrid position, located in Victoria, Central London and requires occasional travel to Twickenham, NIHR sites across England, and international locations as needed. Employees are expected to attend the office at least four days per month, typically one day per week, with the possibility of increased office presence based on team requirements.
