Overview
From Valuations to The World of Law. SQE Nightingale Solicitors. Your Trusted Legal Advisors. We’re a modern, family-run law firm with big ambitions. We’re looking for someone proactive, personable, and sharp to join the team. This isn’t a stop-gap job. It’s a chance to take responsibility, grow your skills, and help shape the future of the firm alongside us.
You’ll be quickly trusted as a key point of contact for clients. You’ll be answering queries on the phone, managing calendars, handling client care, supporting case management, and assisting with legal work across a varied caseload including private criminal defence (we don\\\’t do legal aid work), driving offences, independent legal advice, and immigration. You’ll draft letters and communications, carry out legal research, manage files, and liaise directly with third parties such as the Police, Magistrates’ and Crown Courts, other solicitors, barristers’ chambers, and the Home Office.
There isn’t a set profile of who this role is for. We can teach you the law and technical side of the job. What matters most is the person, their mindset, and their drive. You should be reliable, sharp, and eager to learn. You’ll need to be confident with clients, clear when explaining things in plain English, and comfortable taking responsibility. Strong spelling and grammar are important, as is being organised, tech-curious, and able to work well under pressure. Above all, we want someone who will be part of the fabric of the firm for the long term.
We’re serious about hard work and high standards, but we also believe the best teams know how to have a laugh and keep the energy up when the pressure is on. If you’re someone who can balance professionalism with personality, you’ll fit right in here.
We offer hands-on training and mentoring, a clear pathway to qualifying as a solicitor, and the chance to grow as the firm grows.

How to Apply
Please send your CV to info@nightingalesolicitors.co.uk along with short answers to these three questions:
- A client calls angry because they’ve had no update on their case for two weeks. While you’re speaking with them, you notice in the file that a key piece of work is outstanding and due very soon. How would you manage the client’s expectations and also make sure the deadline is dealt with?
- We want to use technology to make client journeys smoother. What’s one simple way you think a small law firm could use tech or automation to save time or make life easier for clients?
- This role has room to grow into a more senior position as the firm expands. Where do you see yourself in a few years, and how could this role help you get there?
This is a full-time role based at our office in Derby. Salary will be competitive, with regular reviews to reflect your contribution and development.
