Are you a recent graduate or someone looking to start a career in finance and looking for a varied finance role where you can broaden your experience across credit control, accounts payable, billing and general accounting?

We are supporting an established organisation in Newcastle with the recruitment of an Accounts Assistant. Joining a collaborative Finance team, you will play an important role in managing day-to-day financial processes while working closely with colleagues across Finance, Sales and Account Management.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a first time mover into finance who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their responsibilities and is keen to develop well-rounded experience within a busy finance environment. As the Accounts Assistant you will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing customer accounts and resolving invoice queries
  • Proactively chasing overdue balances and maintaining accurate debt records
  • Issuing customer statements and overdue payment correspondence
  • Following up on failed Direct Debit collections
  • Supporting the management of Direct Debit processes and collection schedules
  • Setting up new customers and maintaining accurate records in Sage
  • Processing sales invoices and customer credit notes
  • Working with internal teams to resolve billing and account queries
  • Processing purchase ledger invoices and maintaining supplier accounts
  • Supporting expense payments and credit card processing
  • Completing monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assisting with month-end processes
  • Providing wider support across the Finance team when required

The Person

You will be an organised and approachable individual with strong attention to detail and the confidence to communicate with customers and colleagues at all levels.

You will ideally bring:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Confident and professional communication skills
  • A proactive approach to resolving customer queries
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office knowledge, particularly Excel
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • A positive attitude and willingness to support the wider team
