Key Responsibilities

  • This is not a General Manager role where you inherit someone else’s operation and simply keep it running. We’re recruiting for an exciting new opening in Manchester, where you’ll have the opportunity to build your team from the ground up, shape the culture and establish the standards for what comes next.
  • You’ll be a highly visible, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Day to day, you’ll take ownership of the operation, develop your people and create an experience that keeps customers coming back.
  • Recruit, train, coach and build a high-performing team.
  • Develop future leaders and create a strong succession pipeline.
  • Set consistently high standards for service, operational performance and team culture.
  • Take ownership of commercial performance, including sales, labour, costs, inventory and other key measures.
  • Ensure the operation is ready for busy periods and delivers consistently under pressure.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and the local community.
  • Lead from the front, remaining visible, approachable and involved.

About You

You’ll understand what it takes to lead in a high-volume environment where priorities can change quickly and where the quality of your leadership has a direct impact on performance. Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone with presence, energy and personality. Someone who can engage a team, build relationships with customers and create an environment with a genuine sense of momentum.

  • Has successfully led teams within a fast-paced, high-volume, customer-facing environment.
  • Is naturally hands-on and visible, rather than managing predominantly from behind a desk.
  • Can demonstrate how you have recruited, coached and developed people, including helping individuals progress into leadership positions.
  • Sets high standards and has the confidence to hold people accountable while remaining a supportive leader.
  • Understands the commercial drivers of an operation and can use performance information to make practical decisions.
  • Is confident managing competing priorities, particularly during busy trading periods.
  • Brings genuine personality to leadership and is comfortable being highly visible with customers and colleagues.
  • Enjoys creating and improving rather than simply maintaining established ways of working.
  • Is motivated by the opportunity to build something at an early stage and make a visible contribution to its future success.
  • Can work flexibly across five days out of seven, including weekends.

Your background matters, but the person behind the CV will matter just as much. We’re looking for someone with the energy and leadership style to bring people with them and the ambition to build a team they can be proud of.

What’s next?

You’ll have the chance to join early, get fully immersed in the operation and play an active role in recruiting and developing the team you will ultimately lead. And the opportunity should not stop with one opening. There is a clear focus on developing people internally and building leadership capability for future growth.

If you want an environment where strong performance can create further opportunities, this could be an exciting point at which to join. We’re interested in meeting people now, including candidates who need to work through a reasonable notice period.

If you’re an ambitious General Manager who wants to look back and say, “I helped build that from the beginning”, I’d like to hear from you.
