Job Description

The OpportunityNexus is at the heart of transport in the North East, delivering services that connect communities and support economic growth. Nexus are undergoing a significant transformation, including major capital investment in transport infrastructure and changes in service delivery.This is a strategic leadership role with visibility across the organisation. The Head of Finance will lead the finance function and play a key role in shaping Nexus’ financial strategy and operational delivery. The Role
  • Lead financial management, accounting, exchequer, and payroll services.
  • Lead the production of the annual accounts to meet statutory requirements and ensure appropriate statutory and regulatory reporting, including effective liaison with external audit.
  • Lead on the development of the revenue budget and medium term financial plan and work with the Head of Programme Assurance on the development of the capital programme, ensuring budgets are regularly monitored and controlled and capital investment is properly funded.
  • Maintain robust cost control, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Review and optimise the finance system and processes.
  • Support major capital programmes.
  • Deputise for the Director of Finance and Resources and represent Nexus at board-level meetings.

The Person

We’re looking for a values-driven leader who is:

  • A CCAB qualified accountant with senior leadership experience.
  • Skilled in financial modelling, budgeting.
  • Capital investment experience would be desirable.
  • Experienced in statutory reporting.
  • Comfortable working in a complex, multi-stakeholder public sector environment.
  • A strong communicator with excellent analytical and commercial skills.
  • Able to lead transformation and manage change effectively.
