Job Description

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise and a passion for public sector finance? Were seeking an Interim Accountant to provide essential support to the finance team during a period of change and development for 6 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to play a key role in maintaining robust financial controls, delivering high-quality financial reporting, and supporting the organisation's financial management and governance arrangements.

About the role

  • Lead balance sheet control activities, ensuring reconciliations are accurate, complete and audit-ready.
  • Deliver technical accounting compliance in line with relevant standards, supporting the production of high-quality financial statements.
  • Manage reserves balances and funding streams, providing clear reporting and oversight.
  • Oversee organisational cashflow, banking and investments, ensuring effective treasury management.
  • Prepare insightful treasury reports for senior stakeholders and governance committees.
  • Manage VAT returns, government submissions and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Oversee income recognition and grant accounting processes.
  • Line manage and support an Accounts Assistant.
  • Administer and improve finance systems, including Xero, and drive continuous improvement across financial controls and processes.

About You

  • A CCAB-qualified accountant, or an AAT-qualified accounting technician (or equivalent) with significant post-qualification development and relevant experience.
  • Technically strong with the ability to operate in a complex financial environment.
  • Experienced in financial controls, treasury management, balance sheet management and statutory reporting.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and partnering with senior stakeholders.
