Job Description The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a busy finance team supporting multiple entities within a growing and dynamic business. This is a varied role offering exposure across bookkeeping, month-end accounting, management information, VAT compliance and intercompany accounting. You'll work closely with the wider finance team, helping to ensure financial records are maintained accurately while supporting reporting and control processes across a portfolio of companies. This position would suit an AAT-qualified individual or someone actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification who is looking to build on their existing finance experience and continue their career development. The Role Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple entities. Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and intercompany transactions. Raise sales invoices and process customer receipts. Support credit control activities and monitor outstanding balances. Perform bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Reconcile balance sheet control accounts and resolve reconciling items. Assist with the preparation of monthly management information. Support VAT reporting and compliance processes. Assist with year-end audit requirements and statutory reporting. Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes and controls. The Person About You AAT qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA. Previous experience in a finance or accounting role. Experience supporting month-end processes, including journals and reconciliations. Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles. Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables. High attention to detail and strong organisational skills. Proactive approach with the ability to investigate and resolve issues. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the business. Desirable Experience Experience within construction, property, housebuilding or project-based environments. Exposure to multi-entity or joint venture accounting. Experience of ERP/accounting systems and VAT compliance processes. Involvement in year-end audit and statutory reporting activities.
