The Opportunity: Our client, a leading logistics business with operations across the UK and with company headquarters on Teesside, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced finance professional to join their team. This is a newly created Head of Central Accounting role, reporting in to the Finance Director. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape and lead central accounting functions within a forward-thinking and evolving business.

Main duties/responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the Central Accounting team, helping them grow and succeed.
  • Make sure monthly financial reports (profit & loss, cash flow, balance sheet) are accurate and completed on time.
  • Work with the Group Reporting team to support wider reporting needs.
  • Oversee the preparation of year-end financial information and help with audits and statutory accounts.
  • Review and approve internal controls, keeping process documents up to date.
  • Work with other finance teams on managing cash flow and treasury tasks.
  • Ensure financial procedures are followed and suggest improvements when needed.
  • Look for ways to improve and automate processes to make work more efficient.

You will be/have:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with at least 3 years of experience after qualifying.
  • Experience in a finance leadership role.
  • Good knowledge of accounting rules (UK GAAP and IFRS) and can prepare clear, accurate financial reports and analysis.
  • Experience of improving financial processes.
  • Comfortable working with external auditors.
  • Strong analysis skill, problem solving and attention to detail.
