The Senior Backend Engineer will take technical ownership of key backend platform domains, playing a hands-on role in building and evolving services while setting engineering standards and improving overall quality. Key Responsibilities
- Backend Architecture & Development
- Own the design and evolution of backend services, including architecture, coding standards, and system design
- Build and maintain production-grade services using modern backend technologies (e.g. Go, TypeScript)
- Deliver systems that are scalable, reliable, and performant, supporting growing user demand
- Make sound architectural decisions, balancing speed of delivery with long-term maintainability
- Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Develop and operate services within a cloud-native environment (AWS), including compute, containerisation, and database layers
- Contribute to the evolution of the platform architecture as part of ongoing modernisation efforts
- Ensure systems are designed with observability, resilience, and operational efficiency in mind
- Engineering Quality & Standards
- Drive high standards through code reviews, testing practices, and engineering discipline
- Contribute to improving development practices, tooling, and ways of working

Experience & Technical Skills
- Strong experience building and operating backend services at scale, ideally in Go or similar languages
- Experience with TypeScript/Node.js or equivalent backend environments
- Deep familiarity with AWS and cloud-native architectures (e.g. Lambda, containers, managed databases)
- Strong understanding of:
