Opportunity: Nigel Wright is delighted to be supporting an established, growth orientated professional services firm who are looking to recruit a Business Development Manager into a newly created role designed to bring structure, insight, and momentum to business development efforts. This is a unique opportunity to shape a role around your strengths while making a tangible impact on the firm’s growth trajectory. Office based role, Newcastle upon Tyne, with flex for 1 day week WFH.
Role: Reporting into the head of marketing, you’ll work closely with fee earners to:
- Set and support achievable, strategic BD targets
- Provide market insight and segmentation to guide focus
- Encourage, challenge, and elevate BD activity across the firm
This is not a traditional sales role. Instead, you’ll be the catalyst—creating the conditions for others to succeed in business development.
Key Focus Areas:
- Networking & Relationship Building: Build and maintain networks across key sectors; Identify and nurture potential client and referrer relationships; Create a platform/funnel for fee earners to convert into new business.
- Market Intelligence & Strategy: Stay close to sector trends and competitor activity; Feed insights into BD strategy and campaigns; Help shape events and initiatives that resonate with the market.
- Internal Enablement: Be a trusted advisor to fee earners; Bring accountability and structure to BD efforts; Influence without overstepping – support without overshadowing.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience in a business development capacity, preferably within the professional services sector or working closely with professional services clients.
- Strong stakeholder management – both internally and externally.
- Resilient, with excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence.
- Confident in building internal and external networks and understanding personalities.
- Commercially astute with the ability to segment markets and identify opportunities.
- Comfortable working with data and insight to inform strategy.
