Our client is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager (BDM) – North to join a global manufacturing business. Reporting directly to the General Sales & Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for driving profitable growth across the Northern UK territory, including Scotland. This is a high-impact role where you will play a key part in shaping and executing the regional sales strategy, identifying new business opportunities, and building long-term customer relationships. Ideally based between Leeds and Newcastle upon Tyne, to cover the M62 corridor and above, including Scotland. Home based role with regular travel across the territory and 2 days/month in the South East office.

Role

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of historic customer data and market mapping in the initial weeks.
  • Develop and execute a clear, strategic sales plan to identify and target high-value customers.
  • Promote fully integrated, value-added solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with both new and existing clients.
  • Define and implement market strategies to increase market share and profitability.
  • Attend industry events and trade shows to enhance brand visibility and network with key stakeholders.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries with a consultative, solution-oriented approach.
  • Negotiate contracts and close deals to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Regularly meet customers both virtually and face-to-face to maintain strong engagement.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a field sales or territory management role within a technical product/service environment.
  • Background in mechanical or electrical industries preferred, but not essential.
  • A proactive, self-starting approach with a hunter mentality and a passion for business development.
  • Strong ability to generate leads and convert them into long-term partnerships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a customer-centric and profit-driven mindset.
  • Technically competent and able to clearly articulate complex solutions to diverse audiences.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing your own diary.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the territory and spend occasional nights away.
