This is a senior-level mechanical design role with genuine influence across a busy and robust new product development pipeline. You will play a leading role in taking products from early concept through to manufacture, working from first principles and closely collaborating with a large, established Design & Engineering function.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading mechanical design activities across multiple new product development projects
- Designing from first principles, producing robust 3D models, detailed 2D drawings, and engineering calculations
- Performing FEA analysis to validate and optimise designs
- Working closely with manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to ensure design for manufacture and design for cost
- Supporting prototyping, testing, and validation using in-house facilities
- Creating and maintaining BOMs and supporting configuration tools to enable efficient manufacture
- Applying a strong understanding of manufacturing processes
- Playing a visible role in continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and best practice
- Reporting directly into the Head of Engineering and contributing to technical direction and decision-making
About you
You will be an experienced mechanical design engineer with a strong background in new product development within an engineering or manufacturing environment. Comfortable working with responsibility and autonomy, you will combine analytical rigour with practical, hands-on engineering capability.
You are likely to have:
- Significant experience in mechanical design for manufactured products
- Proven ability to design from first principles
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar), including FEA and PDM
- High competence in GD&T and detailed drawing creation
- Experience designing components and assemblies for:
- Plastic injection moulding
- Aluminium or plastic extrusion
- Castings
- Sheet metal
