London | Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Nigel Frank is working with a financial services organisation based in London to appoint an experienced Senior IT Engineer. This is a broad, hands-on role within a lean technology team, offering ownership across infrastructure, cloud platforms, networking, security, and end-user computing, alongside active involvement in project delivery.
You’ll work closely with the Head of IT, acting as a key technical escalation point and trusted partner, while also contributing to ongoing improvements across infrastructure, cloud services, and security posture. The role requires someone comfortable not only supporting systems, but also configuring, administering, and enhancing them across a modern Microsoft-centric environment.
The Role
This position combines senior-level end-user support with technical delivery across infrastructure and cloud projects. You’ll ensure day-to-day service stability while also helping to evolve and strengthen the organisation’s IT landscape.
You’ll support users across multiple locations and at varying levels of seniority, so the ability to communicate clearly and translate technical concepts into practical guidance is essential. This is a varied role spanning cloud, infrastructure, networking, and security — ideal for someone who enjoys breadth, ownership, and being involved across the full IT stack rather than working in a siloed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a senior escalation point for end-user support across onsite and remote users
- Support and deputise for the Head of IT across operational and infrastructure matters
- Deliver and contribute to infrastructure, cloud, networking, and security-related projects
- Configure and manage Microsoft 365 services including identity, collaboration, and endpoint management
- Administer and support Windows 11 environments, including rollout, troubleshooting, and device lifecycle management
- Work with cloud and virtualised platforms, ensuring performance, availability, and resilience
- Support and maintain networking and security controls including firewalls, access management, and endpoint protection
- Manage incidents end-to-end and coordinate with external vendors where necessary
- Maintain clear, structured documentation across systems and processes
- Participate in an on-call / out-of-hours support rotation
- Support continuous improvement across infrastructure, automation, and operational processes
What We’re Looking For
- Around 5–10 years of IT experience, ideally in a senior IT or infrastructure-focused role
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows 11 environments, including deployment, administration, and troubleshooting
- Proven experience managing Microsoft 365, including tools such as Intune, Autopilot, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams
- Solid understanding of networking and cybersecurity principles, including firewalls, identity, and access controls
- Experience working with cloud and virtualised environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, VMware vCenter, and Windows Server environments (including SQL-based services)
- Experience with backup and resilience tooling such as Veeam or similar technologies
- Demonstrable experience in configuring and improving systems, not just providing break/fix support
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to Microsoft Purview, DLP, sensitivity labelling, or information protection tools
- Experience or familiarity with Microsoft Copilot or emerging AI-driven workplace tools
- Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Power Automate, batch scripting, or similar)
- Vendor management or third-party assurance experience
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft, cybersecurity, networking (e.g. Cisco), or infrastructure technologies
- A background in a science or technical degree discipline is advantageous but not essential
Why Join?
- Salary up to £60,000
- Strong annual bonus scheme
- Broad exposure across cloud, infrastructure, networking, and security
- Opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders within a regulated financial services environment
- Hybrid working model (Central London office, 3 days onsite)
- A role where ownership, initiative, and technical input are genuinely valued, with scope to influence and improve the wider IT environment
