Nigel Frank is partnering with a London-based Financial Services client to recruit an Infrastructure Engineer to join a small, high-performing IT team supporting a secure, FCA-regulated environment. This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys owning, configuring, and improving core infrastructure, cloud, security, and networking platforms. You’ll work closely with the Head of IT, playing a key role in both project delivery and day-to-day operational stability within a lean and collaborative team.
The Role
This position blends infrastructure and security project delivery with senior operational responsibility. You’ll be trusted to lead technical improvements across Microsoft, cloud, network, and endpoint platforms while acting as a senior escalation point when required. Given the size of the IT function, this role suits someone who enjoys variety, technical ownership, and accountability across multiple technology areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure, security, and user issues
- Designing, configuring, and improving Microsoft 365 environments including identity, device management, messaging, and collaboration platforms
- Leading Windows 11 endpoint configuration, including Autopilot, Intune policies, compliance controls, and application deployment
- Designing and implementing security controls including Conditional Access, endpoint security, firewall configuration, and network protection
- Supporting and improving network infrastructure including firewalls, VPNs, DNS, and core networking services
- Administering cloud and infrastructure platforms across Azure, AWS, Windows Server, and virtualised environments (VMware, Hyper‑V)
- Supporting backup, disaster recovery, and resilience solutions such as Veeam
- Contributing to cyber security initiatives, risk reduction, and security posture improvements
- Supporting vendor due diligence, technical assurance, and third‑party supplier reviews
- Producing and maintaining technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures
- Working closely with the Head of IT on platform improvements, architecture decisions, and roadmap planning
- Participating in out‑of‑hours support on a planned rota basis
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong experience configuring and supporting Windows 11 desktop environments
- Proven experience administering and configuring Microsoft 365, including Exchange, Intune, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and identity services
- Hands‑on networking and firewall configuration experience
- Experience supporting and improving cloud and infrastructure platforms including Azure, AWS, Windows Server, virtualisation technologies, and backup solutions such as Veeam
- Strong understanding of cyber security principles including access control, endpoint security, and data protection
- Comfortable working across project delivery and operational support within a small team environment
- Experience working within regulated or security‑focused environments is advantageous
- Automation or scripting experience such as PowerShell, Power Automate, or similar tools
- Exposure to data protection, DLP, compliance, or information governance tooling
- Relevant Microsoft, infrastructure, networking, or security certifications
- Experience within financial services or similar regulated industries
