Introduction:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join our growing friendly team at Niftylift. The role is based at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hoyland, Barnsley.

Niftylift Limited is a leading privately owned designer and manufacturer of mobile elevated work platforms, with a global customer base and products supported in over 40 countries. Our success is supported by a team of over 400 staff across three UK centers of excellence.

The Design Engineer role requires team players with experience and skills in mechanical engineering and CAD (3D and 2D). The role demands high standards of quality and workmanship within a world-class manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Support operational processes in developing and maintaining jig and fixture design systems and procedures aligned with Niftylift standards. Lead the design and validation of jigs and fixtures for new and existing products to ensure capability to produce parts to drawings.
  2. Provide detailed information to Product Design Engineers to facilitate design changes that improve jig and fixture fit-up and automation.
  3. Manage projects involving the design, manufacture, commissioning, and validation of jigs and fixtures, following the 8-stage gate process.
  4. Create procedures for calibration and maintenance of jigs and fixtures.

Experience:

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering (HND considered).
  2. Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD software (preferably CREO).
  3. Background in jig and fixture development and control.
  4. Fabrication product design experience is desirable.
  5. Experience with automated, semi-automated, and manual manufacturing processes.
  6. Knowledge of cutting processes (laser, plasma, waterjet).
  7. Experience with pressing, cold forming, CNC machining, EDM, surface and cylindrical grinding, automated welding, fabrication, and assembly.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Attend stakeholder meetings, provide feedback, and complete actions timely.
  2. Lead the design, manufacture, and implementation of new jigs and fixtures.
  3. Coordinate with design and project engineers to maintain design controls per standards.
  4. Design cost-effective jigs, fixtures, and bespoke equipment without compromising quality.
  5. Create BOMs and user manuals for all designs.
  6. Maintain and develop jig and fixture models, drawings, and calibration requirements.
  7. Lead projects to deliver jigs/fixtures on time and support external design and manufacturing services as needed.
  8. Support process and equipment installation projects, ensuring design improvements are documented and implemented.

Working Hours & Salary:

7:30 – 4:30 Monday to Thursday
7:30 – 1:30 Friday
