Radius would like to invite applications for the following Apprenticeship role:

  • Hours: 36 hours per week (this will be inclusive of the apprenticeship being run directly in the workplace)
  • Salary: Enhanced apprenticeship rate
  • Location: Greater Belfast area
  • Contract: Fixed term role for duration of the apprenticeship

What you’ll do:

  • Be aware of the “package” of care and/or support which is tailored to meet the resident’s needs, both physically and mentally, and respond accordingly, always affording dignity, respect and choice to the individual.
  • Give residents/tenants the opportunity to participate in all activities of daily living to promote their independence, self‑esteem and sense of fulfilment.
  • Assist those residents/tenants who require help with dressing, undressing, bathing, toileting including assisting those who may be incontinent of urine/faeces.
  • Help residents/tenants with mobility difficulties, or other physical disabilities and help in the use and care of aids and other personal equipment.
  • Provide support and care for residents/tenants who are terminally ill and provide end of life care to those who are suffering from long term illness.
  • Ensure that the resident/tenants accommodation is always clean, tidy and provides a safe environment in which to live. This will include laundry and the management of soiled laundry, ensuring this is transported safely to the laundry.
  • Inspect, launder and mend if appropriate residents/tenants clothing.
  • Support residents/tenants to ensure that their daily dietary needs are met. This may include assisting to set dining places, serving or support with the preparation of meals, drinks and snacks and help any residents/tenants who may require extra assistance at mealtimes or throughout the day.
  • Provide a high level of customer service at all times. This includes welcoming visitors to the scheme, answering the telephone and responding to emergency calls in a professional manner.
  • Read and complete daily reports, take part in staff and residents’/tenants’ meetings and attend training activities, as required by the Scheme Manager.

The Association Radius Housing provides quality and affordable social housing in over 80 towns and cities throughout Northern Ireland. We provide a range of services from sheltered housing for the over 55’s and general needs housing for families and single people, as well as specialist care and support facilities for the frail, elderly, people with dementia and learning disabilities and other complex needs. More than anything we are looking for potential, however, to be shortlisted candidates need to provide evidence of the following as a minimum:

  • Have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) to include English, Maths and ICT at grade C or above. If you do not have a GCSE Grade C in English, Maths, or ICT/IT or equivalent, you will also be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. For you to be exempt, you will be required to show us original copies of your certificates.
  • Be committed to enrolling in either a level 2 or level 3 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care via one of the providers listed below.
  • Willingness to register with NISCC (Northern Ireland Social Care Council) as a requirement of the role.

Please note successful candidates will be required to submit an application to register with NISCC within 2 weeks of receipt of employment offer (if not already registered), and employment in the role will be conditional on retaining NISCC registration.

Radius has carried out a risk assessment into the duties performed by a Care Assistant/Support Worker and as such deems this post to be unsuitable for persons under the age of 18. Successful applicants will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure Check. Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily debar an applicant from working with the Association. Disclosure information will be handled in line with the Access NI Code of Practice and Association’s “Handling & Assessing Criminal Convictions Policy”, a copy of which is available from the HR department.
