One of my clients is looking for an experienced Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer to support and enhance a mission critical enterprise mainframe environment. This role focuses on the stability, performance, and evolution of core z/OS and CICS platforms within a highly regulated, always-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Take full technical ownership of the z/OS, JES2, CICS and associated third party software environments.
  • Plan and deliver end to end system maintenance, upgrades, and new release implementations.
  • Install, configure, customise, and migrate IBM and ISV software across production and non-production environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex system issues to minimise risk and downtime.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and resource utilisation.
  • Work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to communicate system changes and impacts.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentoring to less experienced team members when required.

Key Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience in z/OS and CICS systems programming.
  • Proven experience delivering major mainframe upgrade or migration initiatives.
  • Background working with a broad range of ISV software from vendors such as Broadcom, BMC, and others.
  • Solid knowledge of System z hardware configuration including HCD, IOCP, and HMC.
  • Experience with mainframe storage and data management tools such as DFSMS, FDR ABR, DFDSS, and CA-DISK.
  • Ability to read, write, and troubleshoot batch and online programs using REXX, Assembler, or similar.
  • Mainframe security administration using RACF or ACF2.
  • WebSphere MQ.
  • Mainframe automation tooling such as OPS MVS.
  • Enterprise disk and virtual tape storage platforms.
  • Hybrid or office based depending on client requirements.
