We are delighted to represent a multinational manufacturing organisation in their appointment of an Engineering Manager, effectively leading a team of design engineers to deliver bespoke projects to a range of prestigious clients. This business offers complex engineering solutions to several sectors, notably oil and gas, marine, defence, nuclear and aerospace. The role holder will take a lead role in the Projects division, ultimately accountable for engineering milestones, planning, monitoring and ensuring delivery of design activities through effective technical leadership and direction of a dynamic design team, checking and validating work throughout the product life cycle, and promoting a culture of high performance, innovation and pride. This work will involve the consistent application of a range of best practice tools to each process, including PFMEA, DFM, tolerance design, DFSS, robust methods for change management.

Working closely with key stakeholders across Sales, Operations and Quality to ensure the most efficient delivery against key KPIs – safety, quality, cost, OTIF.

Key skills

  • Educated to Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree level in Engineering
  • Chartered or wishing to work towards Chartership – this will be supported and actively encouraged
  • An impressive track record in technical (R&D biased) engineering management, working within a relevant setting – oil and gas, aerospace, marine, nuclear, or similar highly regulated, safety critical environment
  • Strong experience in taking complex products through full and staged design and validation life cycle, using the tools highlighted above
  • Demonstrable achievement in leading, mentoring and coaching a multidisciplined engineering team

Ultimately, we seek an action oriented Design biased Engineering Manager who will combine innovative technical ability with polished people management skills, who seeks to be empowered and promotes accountability, encouraging a positive, cohesive and collaborative working relationship between all stakeholders, and inspiring a shared vision and ensuring a consistent alignment with customer business objectives.

This role will be based in the North East UK and is office based – support will be offered for relocation as required.
