3 days a week on site in L1 Liverpool & Merseyside & 2 days remote. Must drive/own a car. Education sector experience essential. 12 month FTC with a view to go permanent after the year. Up to £37,000 + commission.

An IT firm is looking for an IT Engineer (Support) with current or very recent experience within the Educational sector (Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Academies, Universities or Colleges) to work in a hybrid model across Liverpool and Merseyside.

Contracted onsite support — minimum 3 days per week. Deliver contracted onsite IT support across the school client base — minimum three days per week on client sites as part of contracted service commitments. Primary contracted base is Liverpool City Centre (L1) with regular travel across Liverpool and Merseyside. Remaining two days per week spent on remote support, reactive client visits, and project delivery.

Skills & Tech:

  • Minimum 4 years hands-on experience in a senior IT support or systems engineer role within education.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve server failures independently — OS, hardware, RAID, and virtualisation.
  • Strong Active Directory and Group Policy experience — real-world deployment and troubleshooting, not just basic administration.
  • Hands-on cyber security experience — incident response, endpoint protection, web filtering, and Cyber Essentials.
  • Confident with Microsoft 365 administration across the full suite.
  • Solid networking knowledge — VLANs, managed switches, wireless, firewalls, and routing.
  • Experience with MDM platforms — Mosyle, Jamf, Intune, or equivalent.
  • Able to work completely independently — you do not need supervision to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle — client sites are spread across Liverpool and Merseyside.
  • Strong communication skills — you can explain a complex technical issue to a headteacher clearly and calmly.
