Community Counseling of Bristol County is seeking Bachelor’s level candidates to join our Therapeutic Mentoring program. Therapeutic Mentors provide one to one intervention and therapeutic skill building to youth, ages 7 to 21, to address daily living, social, communication and emotional regulation skills challenges. TM’s will meet with the youth in the community to support and coach the development of self-management, problem-solving, conflict-resolution skills, as well as develop strategies for effective handling of peer interactions. Skill building is provided while engaging youth in a variety of ways, including social, recreational, athletic, artistic, educational and vocational activities.
As a Therapeutic Mentor (TM) , you will gain valuable experience to build your career in the mental health field. CCBC has a strong agency commitment to staff development and employee wellness. CCBC supports educational development and has adult and children’s programs that offer opportunities for Master’s level internships. CCBC also offers tuition reimbursement for eligible employees.
The Therapeutic Mentoring program at CCBC offers a collaborative team approach that values self-care. You will receive trauma-informed individual supervision from a licensed clinician, as well as training on trauma, early childhood mental health, child development and creating skill building interventions specific to the needs of youth.
Responsibilities:
- Meet one to one with youth in community settings
- Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the outpatient therapists, Intensive Care Coordinators and/or In-Home Therapists
- Support the youth in developing goals in identified skill building areas
- Consult with schools, outpatient providers and psychiatric providers to support the youth’s ongoing treatment needs
- Identify community supports and activities to engage youth in skill building goals
- Provide flexibility and creativity in engaging youth of varying developmental levels
- Meet all documentation requirements of the agency and TM program specifications
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
- Bilingual staff (Spanish) encouraged to apply
- One year of experience working with children and families; volunteer and internship experience will be considered
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must possess good organizational skills, as well as effective verbal, written and computer skills.
- Proficiency with computers including ability to use or learn to use an electronic health record system, audio-visual communication technology
