Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Adult Substance Use Services team is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Clinician to join our Office-Based Addiction Treatment Team. Our team is a dynamic, multidisciplinary team that highly values harm reduction, innovative practices, progressive approaches for medication-assisted programming, professional growth, and a collaborative work environment.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Specialized training and experience in evidence-based treatment models such as systems of care for medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD), harm reduction interventions, motivational interviewing dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), assertive community treatment (ACT) are strongly preferred; those candidates with verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency skills; working knowledge of electronic health record systems. Demonstrated ability to lead others. Skills in trauma-informed treatment techniques, motivational interviewing, and medication-assisted treatments (such as Suboxone, Methadone, and Vivitrol) preferred; working knowledge of American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria and the ability to apply these criteria to make recommendations is preferred.

Additional Requirements
Must hold an active professional license in the State of Virginia (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LSAPT) or be fully licensed within six months of hire.

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Completes comprehensive needs assessments including the use of ASAM Criteria to determine diagnosis and treatment recommendations for individual impacted by substance use, trauma and co-occurring mental health conditions;
• Employs evidence-based practices to independently and effectively deliver individual and group therapy services for adults aged 18 and older, who are experiencing various substance use and mental health diagnoses, and who have limited resources and complex service needs;
• Creates and oversees individualized service plans by evaluating an individual’s strengths, needs, preferences, and abilities, while working together to establish goals, objectives and interventions to meet the identified needs;
• Works collaboratively with a variety of disciplines, including peer recovery specialists, licensed addiction specialists, psychiatrists, nurses, and case managers;
• May serve as a lead worker to Clinicians, interns, etc. and assists in providing clinical supervision and training;
• Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health treatment;
• Ensures accurate and timely documentation is inputted in an Electronic Health Record in accordance with licensure, Department of Medical Assistance Services, and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) CARF standards for practice; and
• Performs other work as required.
