Qualifications:
- Valid Georgia Service Certificate in School Counseling (P-12).
- Master’s Degree or higher.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
Responsibilities:
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- Assist with preparing and implementing a school-based guidance plan that supports young children’s social, emotional, and academic growth. This includes: 1) Individual and group counseling activities. 2) Classroom guidance activities.
- Assist with the school administrator and staff with a crisis intervention plan.
- Identify and address early signs of emotional or behavioral challenges and provide interventions as appropriate.
- Consult with parents/guardians, faculty, administrators, and community resource leaders concerning student needs.
- Complete required professional reports and administrative tasks.
- Keep mornings and afternoons duty-free to be available for consulting with teachers, parents, and guardians.
- Attend professional development conferences, meetings, seminars, and activities as appropriate.
- Follow professional counseling ethics, including maintaining student confidentiality.
- Assist in solving student problems.
- Help teachers and administration understand student learning potential.
- Assist with Response to Intervention (RTI).
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
Physical Requirements:
Perform routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities, including:
- Medium Work: Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment:
Salary will be paid according to the System’s approved salary schedule. The length of the work year and hours of employment will be established by the system.
