Founded in 1875, the Nicholls & Clarke Group has grown to become one of the largest Manufacturers, Distributors, and retailers of building materials in the UK. Based in Chadwell Heath, Essex, our Builders Warehouse has become the destination of choice for local, regional, and National contractors of all types and Trades.
The Role: Reporting directly to a Main Board Director, the successful candidate will join a strong Leadership team. The role will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our Builders warehouse whilst incorporating the management of our Heavyside product offering. You will lead a team to achieve sales targets, maintain operational excellence, and uphold our company values.
Key responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management: Inspire, motivate, and manage a team to deliver outstanding service and achieve performance targets.
- Heavyside product Management: Manage our Heavyside product offering by liaising with manufacturers, negotiating, merchandising, and driving sales of our Heavyside products.
- Sales & Business development: Drive sales growth by identifying new opportunities, building relationships with customers, and providing expert product knowledge.
- Customer service Excellence: Ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction through proactive service and effective problem solving.
- Stock & Inventory control: Oversee stock management processes, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining accurate stock records.
- Housekeeping: Ensure that the Builders Warehouse, yard, and showroom areas are kept clean, tidy, and current.
- Operational efficiency: Ensure smooth daily operations, including compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures.
- Financial Management: Manage budgets, control costs, and drive profitability across all elements of our Builders Warehouse, Heavyside yard, and showroom areas.
Who are we looking for?
- Proven experience in managing a Heavyside builders' merchant with a trade counter and showroom or a similar operational role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and motivate a team.
- Commercial awareness and a track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of building materials and construction products, particularly heavy-side items.
- Commitment to health & safety and a strong understanding of relevant regulations.
- A proactive and results-driven mindset.
