Position: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Sheffield

Sector: Engineering

Shift: 4-on, 4-off continental shift pattern, covering 12-hour day shifts (06:00-18:00) and night shifts (18:00-06:00)

Salary: £50,000

Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for all planned and reactive mechanical maintenance activities across the plant.
  • Provide first-line mechanical maintenance and breakdown support to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Manage mechanical engineering activities on shift while ensuring full compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating shift maintenance activities, providing specialist mechanical knowledge where required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability, performance and efficiency.
  • Investigate plant breakdowns and provide accurate technical information and reports to support Single Event Analysis (SEA).
  • Assist in identifying root causes of recurring failures and implementing corrective actions to prevent breakdowns from reoccurring.
  • Complete accurate and detailed engineering and maintenance reports.
  • Lead, support, coach and develop maintenance personnel, including apprentices.

  • Motivated to work effectively within a busy, demanding industrial environment.
  • Demonstrable hands-on mechanical experience within an industrial or engineering setting.
  • Strong practical mechanical knowledge, with the ability to apply technical skills effectively.
  • Confident in supervising, supporting, coaching and developing colleagues.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Well-organised, with strong planning, fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety procedures, environmental standards and compliance requirements.
