Nicholas Associates has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Metrology Manager to join an established & growing client in the Sheffield area. You will lead and manage, at senior level, all metrology / CMM activities within the organisation, ensuring accurate measurement, inspection, and analysis of aerospace castings and patterns while maintaining compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Measurement and dimensional analysis of all patterns and castings with support from the departmental manager.
  • Operation, maintenance, and performance of Faro scanning arm, Hexagon scanning arm, Hexagon Coordinate Measurement Machines with support from the departmental manager.
  • Lead and oversee CMM inspection activities, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and compliance with aerospace standards with support from the departmental manager.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain CMM accuracy checks, validation routines, and verification processes.
  • Develop and enforce inspection procedures, operating standards, and best practices across the CMM department.
  • Liaise with the departmental manager to manage from a senior level the day-to-day operations of the CMM / metrology department.
  • Ensure servicing, calibration, and certification of all measuring and inspection equipment in line with ISO and aerospace standards.
  • Lead participation in NCR meetings, providing technical input, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Interface directly with customers, including attending virtual and in-person meetings to discuss inspection results, quality concerns, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure official routing and inspection processes are strictly adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure availability and effective use of latest metrology software, maintaining proficiency within the team (e.g., PC-DMIS).
  • Collaborate with Production Teams to ensure inspection priorities align with production schedules and delivery targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within metrology, including process optimisation, cycle time reduction, and capability enhancement.
  • Ensure full compliance with aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100), customer specifications, and internal quality systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and traceability for all inspection activities.
  • Support audits (internal, customer, regulatory) related to metrology and inspection.
