Are you an experienced Bid Writer looking for the opportunity to take the next step in your career? We are working with a growing and highly regarded civil engineering and infrastructure contractor that delivers complex projects across a range of sectors, including highways, rail, utilities, defence, nuclear and other major infrastructure markets. Due to continued growth and an expanding work-winning pipeline, they are looking to appoint a Senior Bid Writer to join their London-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Bid Writer who is keen to develop their career into bid management. You will remain heavily involved in the writing and development of high-quality submissions, while also gaining increasing exposure to the wider bid management process and taking ownership of elements of bids.

The Role

Working as part of an established work-winning team, you will play a key role in developing compelling, high-quality and commercially focused bid submissions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Writing, editing and coordinating high-quality PQQ, SQ and tender submissions.
  • Developing compelling and tailored responses that clearly demonstrate the company's capability and added value.
  • Working closely with operational, commercial, technical and pre-construction teams to gather and develop bid content.
  • Reviewing tender requirements and ensuring submissions are fully compliant and aligned with client expectations.
  • Supporting the development of win themes, executive summaries and wider bid strategies.
  • Taking ownership of individual sections and elements of bids, with the opportunity to progress towards managing complete tenders.
  • Supporting bid planning, including developing and maintaining bid programmes and submission schedules.
  • Coordinating input from multiple internal stakeholders and ensuring information is delivered to deadline.
  • Contributing to lessons learned and continuously improving the quality and effectiveness of future submissions.
  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and developing a detailed understanding of the company's technical and commercial offering.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Bid Writer who is ready to broaden their responsibilities and develop towards a Bid Manager position. You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience writing bids within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or a related environment.
  • Strong written communication and editing skills, with the ability to turn complex technical information into clear, compelling and client-focused content.
  • Experience working on competitive tenders, PQQs and/or frameworks.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to work with senior operational and commercial teams.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • An interest in developing your bid management skills and taking greater ownership of the overall tender process.

Experience within sectors such as civil engineering, highways, rail, utilities, defence, nuclear or major infrastructure would be advantageous.

The Opportunity

This is more than a traditional Senior Bid Writer position. The business is looking for someone who is strong technically and creatively as a writer, but who also wants to develop their commercial and bid management capability. You will have the opportunity to work on a varied and high-value pipeline of infrastructure projects, gain exposure to the full bid lifecycle and gradually take on increased responsibility for managing bids from opportunity through to submission.

If you're an experienced Bid Writer who feels ready to step beyond writing and develop into a broader work-winning/bid management role, this could be an excellent next move. Apply now for a confidential discussion about the role and the opportunity.
