About the Vacancy:
Providing materials characterisation and testing services. You will have experience working within a materials laboratory, ideally with metals. We are open to candidates from both industrial or research organisations. Based in Sheffield, there may be occasional business travel including customer visits, attendance and speaking opportunities at technical conferences.
Duties:
- Hands-on delivery of laboratory focused customer projects, from initial planning through to issuing of the final technical report.
- Supporting other members of the team with delivery of customer projects, primarily within the materials laboratory.
- Supporting the Laboratory Quality Manager in maintaining UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation.
- Supporting external events including customer visits and industry conferences.
About You:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in materials science, engineering, metallurgy or similar technical discipline - this is preferred.
- Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment, either industrially or academically - this is essential.
- Able to follow procedures and works instructions within a UKAS ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
- Core experience of materials and metallurgical preparation techniques, optical and electron microscopy and tensile testing.
- Further technical experience in surface characterisation techniques, corrosion testing, heat treatments or failure investigation is desirable.
- Excellent data management attributes, including organisation, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact with both technical and non-technical audiences in-person and across different communication platforms.
- Proven technical report writing abilities.
- Strong IT skills with familiarity with MS Office applications.
- Fluent written and spoken English language skills.
- Strong attention to detail combined with excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work both individually and as part of a multi-skilled team.
