My client is a family-owned, market-leading civil engineering business, based in Staffordshire. They deliver high quality and innovative solutions to clients, specialising in infrastructure, groundworks and related building services with project values ranging between £100,000 and £50m.

They are looking for a motivated and ambitious Trainee Engineer to join the Groundworks and Civil Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to learn, develop technical skills, and gain hands-on experience working on a variety of construction and infrastructure projects.

As a Trainee Engineer, you will support the engineering team with setting out, surveying, and quality control while working closely with site management and subcontractors. You will be given structured training, mentoring, and real opportunities for progression within the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setting out for groundworks, drainage, roadworks, foundations, and structural elements.
  • Support engineering and site teams with surveying duties, including using GPS, total stations, and laser levels.
  • Help maintain and interpret technical drawings, site plans, and specifications.
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure works meet required standards and specifications.
  • Assist in recording as-built information, measurements, and daily progress reports.
  • Support the coordination of subcontractors and site operatives.
  • Learn to use engineering software and digital tools as part of project delivery.

Requirements:

  • A genuine interest in groundworks, civil engineering, and construction.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • At least 1 year of construction experience.
  • Positive attitude with a proactive approach to learning.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • NVQ, BTEC, T-Level, or A-Levels in Construction, Engineering, or related fields (desirable).
