A fast-growing technology company at the forefront of next-generation energy storage is seeking a Senior Electrochemist to support the advancement of its innovative battery platform. This organisation is developing novel electrochemical systems aimed at enabling high-performance, scalable solutions for electrification. With an integrated approach spanning materials through to full system deployment, they are now focused on accelerating commercial readiness.

In this role, you will take a leading position in electrochemical characterisation and performance optimisation, helping to translate complex scientific understanding into tangible product improvements. Working within a cross-functional applications-focused team, you will play a central role in understanding, improving and scaling electrochemical performance.

Key responsibilities:
  • Develop and enhance electrochemical characterisation methods to better understand cell behaviour and material interactions
  • Design and execute advanced electrochemical experiments, including detailed data analysis and interpretation
  • Translate findings into improvements in performance, efficiency and reliability across multiple system levels
  • Collaborate with engineering, modelling and data teams to align experimental insights with system design and predictive models
  • Support the identification and protection of intellectual property where appropriate
  • Engage with external partners and research collaborations to accelerate development
  • Work closely with commercial teams to align testing with customer requirements and application needs
  • Contribute technical expertise to customer-facing activities and application development
  • Support continuous improvement of quality and testing methodologies across materials and cell development
  • Promote best practice in safety, training and engineering standards
About You:
  • PhD in Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience within electrochemical energy storage or conversion (battery experience advantageous)
  • Deep understanding of electrochemical data, particularly electrode–electrolyte interactions and performance behaviour
  • Experience analysing degradation mechanisms and performance over time
  • Ability to apply experimental insights to scaling and real-world performance challenges
  • Comfortable working with complex datasets and extracting meaningful, actionable insights
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, evolving technical environments
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly
  • Experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
