About the role:

Part of a larger group but still operating as a separate business unit, this organisation specialises in CNC machining with a small welding operation in addition. The Operations Manager will take autonomous responsibility for all aspects of the business apart from sales and finance. This will include people, production, health and safety, quality and cost management. You will ensure the ongoing capacity of machines, labour, tooling and materials to deliver customer production on time, to budget and to quality. As the General Manager, you will also be responsible for presenting performance metrics to the Group. We are very much looking for a hands-on leader, visible on the shop floor leading by example. However, previous experience of running a business unit from a P & L perspective is required.

About You:

  • Apprentice trained or holds a formal qualification in a relevant engineering subject
  • Proven experience of working in a CNC machining environment is essential. Preference will be given to people with any exposure to welding.
  • Experience of CNC control systems, off-line programming and CAM systems is very much preferred.
  • A people-focused leader with experience of motivating, developing and mentoring teams whilst maintaining discipline.
  • Recruitment, retention and training of employees.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing metrics – OEE, TEEP, OTIF, Cost of Scrap, Cycle times, cost per unit.
  • Good commercial awareness with experience of managing costs. Able to read and understand profit and loss sheets is preferred.
  • IOSH certification is essential. NEBOSH qualification is preferred.
  • Experience of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing is required. Any certifications in six sigma or similar are beneficial.
  • Experience of operating within quality systems ISO 9000, AS9100, TS16949 etc.
