Site Agent - HS2 Civil Engineering Project
Project: HS2 - Burton Green Tunnel
We are currently recruiting an experienced Site Agent, for a highly regarded civil engineering and structures contractor, to join a major civil engineering project on HS2 in Coventry and the surrounding area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Site Agent to join an established project team and play a key role in the successful delivery and completion of a major infrastructure project.
The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced Senior Project Manager and Works Manager, taking responsibility for the technical and construction leadership of the project.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving construction challenges, coordinating technical interfaces and providing clear direction to engineering and site teams.
The Project
The project involves the delivery of a 510m cut-and-cover tunnel as part of the HS2 works, incorporating significant reinforced concrete, structural, earthworks, drainage, waterproofing and associated civil engineering activities.
The project is now progressing through the later stages of construction, with additional instructed works and further civil engineering packages anticipated.
This provides an opportunity for an experienced Site Agent to join an established team and have a direct influence on the successful delivery of the remaining works.
The Role
As Site Agent, you will act as a key technical and construction lead, working alongside the Senior Project Manager and Works Manager to ensure works are safely, efficiently and successfully delivered in accordance with the design, programme and project requirements.
Key responsibilities will include
- Providing technical and construction leadership across the project.
- Coordinating construction activities and ensuring works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications and project requirements.
- Reviewing and coordinating drawings, specifications, RAMS, ITPs and construction information.
- Providing technical guidance and support to engineers, supervisors and site teams.
- Identifying and resolving technical and construction issues.
- Coordinating interfaces between construction activities, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Monitoring progress against the programme and short-term lookaheads.
- Identifying potential constraints, risks and delays and supporting appropriate mitigation.
- Supporting programme development, progress reporting and delivery planning.
- Liaising with client technical and site management teams.
- Supporting design changes, technical queries and construction-related matters.
- Assisting with Early Warnings, Compensation Events and other NEC contractual processes.
- Ensuring quality, inspection and testing requirements are understood and implemented.
- Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Providing technical input into construction planning, sequencing and buildability.
- Acting as the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) for the project.
- Attending progress, technical, coordination and interface meetings.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Site Agent with a strong technical and construction background and a proven track record of delivering major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
You should be confident taking ownership of technical and construction matters, resolving issues and providing direction to engineering and site teams.
Ideally, you will have
- Significant experience working as a Site Agent on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- A strong technical understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, buildability and temporary works.
- Experience delivering complex civil engineering works.
- Experience with reinforced concrete, structures, earthworks and associated civil engineering activities.
- Experience within a Tier 1 contractor or major infrastructure environment.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
- Experience working under an NEC contract, preferably NEC3.
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification/experience - essential.
- Strong technical, organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to engage confidently with clients, designers, subcontractors and project teams.
- HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- SMSTS or equivalent.
Drainage experience would be particularly advantageous, given the anticipated additional works and future civil engineering packages.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a well-established project team working on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.
Rather than being a standalone project management position, the role provides the successful candidate with strong support from an experienced Senior Project Manager and Works Manager, allowing you to focus on your strengths in technical leadership, construction delivery and problem solving.
You will have the opportunity to work on complex civil engineering works, engage directly with key project stakeholders and contribute to the successful completion of a major HS2 project.
If you are an experienced Site Agent with a strong civil engineering background and are looking for your next major infrastructure opportunity, we would be keen to hear from you.
